Puerto Maldonado is a city in Southeastern Peru in the Amazon rainforest 55 kilometres (34 mi) west of the Bolivian border; located at the confluence of the Tambopata and Madre de Dios rivers, the latter of which joins the Madeira River as a tributary of the Amazon. It is the capital of the Madre de Dios Region. Nearby are the Manú National Park, Tambopata National Reserve, and Bahuaja-Sonene National Park, which have been established to protect natural resources. These are some of the most pristine primary rain forests in the world. They include several oxbow lakes and clay licks, where hundreds of birds, including macaws, feed on clay.

2 days – 1 night

Day 1: You arrive at Puerto Maldonado city, the biodiversity capital of Peru. After a reception at the airport, you will have a city tour by bus. The bus takes you to the port and by boat you will travel down the Madre de Dios river. During the trip you will see along the riverbanks caimans, turtles and other species of animals. You arrive at the jungle lodge and enjoy there an exquisite welcome drink. After that, you have time to settle in to your bungalows and eat lunch. In the afternoon you will visit Monkey Island, which is only 5 minutes from the lodge. You observe extraordinary scenery and lively flora that shelters a variety of monkeys in their natural habitat, such as the black spider monkey, capuchin monkey, tamarin, squirrel monkey, as well as a number of bird species. After a beautiful sunset you return to the lodge for dinner.

Day 2: Take your delicious breakfast in your jungle lodge. After that you will be transferred to the airport of Puerto Maldonado.

Day 2: Lost Cocha: After breakfast you begin your guided adventure through the virgin rainforest on foot to the lost Cocha. The lost Cocha is a protected ecosystem sustaining an immense variety of animals such as giant otters, caimans, turtles, Brazilian tapirs “ sachavacas”, colourful birds, the majestic jaguar, and diverse fish species. This area is an unique part of the ecoamazonia reserve, because its immense swamps and marshes still remain fully intact today. Later, you will arrive at the Amazon Watch Tower, built at the top of an immense tree ( the Shihuahuaco) from which you can appreciate the full and magical beauty of the rainforest. You will also go for a pleasant canoe ride around the lake.

Day 3: Take your delicious breakfast in your jungle lodge. After that you will be transferred to the airport of Puerto Maldonado.

During the walk you will see the Cave of the Caimans. Continuing on, you arrive at the lake Apu Victor – a lake of crystalline waters surrounded by immense swamps and gigantic trees. Later on, from the top of the Amazon Watch Tower, you can enjoy the panorama of the lake and the multitude of birds and animals – parrots, macaws, toucans, horned screamers, hoatzins and herons, as well as other animals such as caimans and turtles. In the afternoon, you return to the lodge for lunch, and then take a canoe trip down the river to visit a local family living in the rainforest. Finally, you will return to the lodge for dinner.

Day 3: Gamitana river or Briolo river: You start the day with breakfast, and then begin another trip through the magical rainforest navigating down the Madre de Dios River to the path that leads to the Gamitana and Briolo rivers. These rivers are born from the innermost virgin forest forming impressive serpentine channels, through which you will travel by canoe while appreciating animals at only an arm’s length. You will also have the opportunity to fish and swim in the crystalline waters of the Gamitana River. Finally you will return to the lodge for dinner.

Day 4: Take your delicious breakfast in your jungle lodge. After that you will have a transfer to the airport of Puerto Maldonado.

4 days / 3 nights

Day 3: Real Palm – after breakfast, you will travel on the Madre de Dios river for approximately 2 hours, where you will see a variety of flora and fauna along the way. Later, you will arrive at the indigenous Amazon community of Palma Real – a semi-civilized group of people living in the rainforest who stil practice ancient customs, rituals, and who follow jungle myths. These native Huarayos and their land are filled with ancient secrets. The people of Palma real are dedicated to fishing, hunting and gathering, and selling their original native artwork. With our expert guide you will learn about their life and how they mark their time using the sun, the moon, and the water. Their message is that humans, plants, animals and rivers are integrated into one world. You will then travel by boat around the area of Palma Real and enjoy the natural beauty of the landscape while enjoying lunch on board. Finally, you will return to the lodge for dinner.

Day 2: Early wake up, have breakfast and then travel by boat for a full day trip to the Macaw Clay Lick. You will enjoy lunch on board while travelling along the Tambopata river and watching caimans, turtles and birds. At the end of the day you will arrive at the Macaw Clay Lick, make camp and have dinner.

Day 3: Very early in the morning, you will walk to the special hiding place to observe the Macaw clay lick. Here you will also have the opportunity to see the jungle’s magnificent sunrise. After observing the macaws on the clay lick, you will return to camp for breakfast. On your way back to the lodge, you are going to enjoy a lunch on your boat.

In the afternoon you will visit Monkey Island, which is only 5 minutes from the lodge. You observe extraordinary scenery and lively flora that shelters a variety of monkeys in their natural habitat, such as the black spider monkey, capuchin monkey, tamarin, squirrel monkey, as well as a number of bird species. After a beautiful sunset you return to the lodge for dinner.

Day 2: You start the day with breakfast and after that you will take a relaxing walk into the rainforest near the lodge. After lunch, there will be an orientation talk with the master shaman to assure the effectiveness of the work he will carry out. At 8:00 pm the session begins. The master shaman guides you through a full cleansing and purification that will last until past midnight. Dinner is not served to ensure that your stomach is empty prior to the session.

Day 3: Breakfast is served in the morning. This day is a resting day. After lunch, you visit the gulch to enjoy a natural bath in the Gamitana or Briolo rivers. Later you return to the to the lodge for dinner.

Day 4: Have a delicious breakfast in your jungle lodge. Transfer to the airport of Puerto Maldonado.

Minimum 3 days / 2 nights

Ornithology is a special fascination for the birdwatchers. The Jungle lodges, situated in ecological nature reserves, offers the best location in the Amazon for birdwatching because of its huge variety of bird species: the most important areas of interest for birdwatchers are: Monkey Island, the beaces and waterways of Lake Apu Victor and the platforms at Lost Cocha.
